Our Focus
Strong mental health is key to the challenges that student athletes face, from rigorous training schedules to academic pressures, especially during their high school and college years.
Being an athlete is tough. There's a lot of pressure to do well, and getting hurt is a real worry. Also, many athletes feel like their sport is who they are. This, plus other life stresses such as transitioning to adulthood, relationship drama and other social pressures, can make it hard for them to deal with their feelings, and they might not ask for help.
We help high school and college-age athletes learn to bounce back, stay centered, and soar both on and off the field.
Students Supporting Students
Our student leadership team, interns and volunteers keep Dragonfly Initiative flying. Peer-to-peer support is a win for the student athletes we help. And our student team members also win through planning and leading onsite events, creating impactful content and building employment skills.
39% of college athletes reported feeling so depressed that it was difficult to function.
Suicides among student athletes have increased. This population is at higher risk compared to non-athlete peers.
30% of college student athletes report feeling overwhelmed, and 1 in 4 experience significant anxiety.
